About the Project
During the life of the project, Southern Star Solar Energy Center is projected to pay over $72 million in local tax revenue, land costs and lease payments to landowners, salaries to employees, and payments for local goods and services, resulting in a significant increase in economic activity in the Pueblo County Area. Local schools and county infrastructure will benefit from the increase in tax revenue.
Pueblo county hosts the land and capacity to host the Southern Star Energy Center. Its location also is being constructed in an area that can interconnect with an existing community grid.
Additionally Colorado's renewable electricity net generation has more than tripled, led by increased solar and wind, and accounted for 30% of the state's total generation in 2020. The Southern Star Solar Energy Center will play an important part in ensuring Colorado meets its established renewable energy standards.
To avoid and minimize impacts to wildlife and other natural resources, we work with state and federal agencies and other interested stakeholders to site, build, and operate our facilities responsibly.
Southern Star Solar Energy Center has completed several environmental studies including:
All county roads and infrastructure will be left in the same or better condition than they were prior to their use for the construction or on-going maintenance and repair of the solar energy project.
Solar farms have minimal impact on the land. Topsoil at Southern Star Solar Energy Center will be removed temporarily and returned in the same or better condition after construction for the life of the project. When the project is decommissioned, Southern Star Energy Center believes in responsible recycling and disposable practices in the decommissioning stage of the project.
